Power of business
SIFE Egypt (Students in Free Enterprise), in cooperation with the American Chamber of Commerce, last week celebrated the French University in Egypt team win at the SIFE World Cup held in Berlin in October 2009.
SIFE is an international non-profit organisation that prepares university students in entrepreneurship and social responsibility. Each team implements a number of projects that target the development of the community through training less developed sectors in micro-project management.
"The win of the French University team is something to be extremely proud of," said Joel Conner, chairman of SIFE worldwide.
He called upon the business community in Egypt to help support SIFE's promising students by giving them time, money and the benefit of wisdom to help them in establishing their projects. "They only want to make Egypt a better place," Conner noted, stressing on the importance of social responsibility.
Hani Hilal, Egyptian minister of higher education and scientific research, attended the event. He highlighted the importance of cooperation between educational institutions and businesses to develop students' skills and to support entrepreneurship and corporate social responsibility.
Alex Shalabi, chairman of SIFE Egypt's Business Advisory Council, revealed that SIFE Egypt is planning to increase its membership to 3,000 within three years, with a focus on governorates such as Assiut and Minoufiya.
