That's all it took

Sir-- One very righteous bullet finally rid the world of this false prophet who brought shame on the religion he falsely claimed to love.

Keep your shoes on

Sir-- And so goes the hide-and-seek champion of 2001-2011. But we haven't won till we can go through airport security with our shoes on. God help us from Bin Laden's brainwashed maniacs.

Deadly crazy

Sir-- Re 'The big bad wolf' ( Al-Ahram Weekly, 14-20 April) I was quoted as criticising the release of Aboud El-Zomor and other Islamists on the Egyptian scene from prison. I was not objecting to their release but I was certainly objecting to the huge propaganda campaign accompanying that release. In Egypt such campaigns are never innocent. I also objected to the timing (just before the referendum) which was intended to rally the Islamists against the pro-democracy camp. A person who says that it is legitimate to kill if your sheikh says so seems to me not only to be bonkers but also a dangerous criminal. Wouldn't you agree? It means that many of us will have fatwas on our heads quite soon. To give that person air space should in fact be punishable by law. This is my understanding of human rights.

I'm sure you've heard of the Salafists cutting off the ear of a Coptic man because they have decided to take the law and morality into their hands. Another group kicked out a woman out of her house and burnt it because they claimed she was immoral. A Salafi son recently killed his father because the father wanted to borrow money to build a house. Are these the people you are defending? Islamophobia is as repugnant as any form of racist thinking. But right-wing Islam is as unacceptable as Western right-wing neo-cons.

Country of origin

Sir-- At this point there really is nothing we can do but watch and hope that intelligence wins out over warped faith. Unfortunately, it is highly unlikely that a country that spawned the likes of Sayed Qotb, author of what is commonly referred to as the modern Jihadist and a member of the Muslim Brotherhood, will be able to resist the establishment of an Islamic, Sharia government, especially with very little time to organise political parties. Hopefully, it won't happen, but if it does, Israel will be the first to find out exactly what the intentions of the 'New Egypt' will be.

Clean free Egypt

Sir-- Congratulations to the young people of Egypt for their efforts to clean the country as they have cleaned it from a corrupt regime.

Rwanda, in East Africa is an example to be followed. It suffered a terrible civil war 15 years ago which caused the death of more than a million of its people. The current administration introduced several good schemes to heal the wounds of a terrible past and build a modern affluent society. One of the impressive schemes the government introduced is on the last Saturday of every month from 8am to 12am everybody including the president is obliged to clean the streets of the area where they live. Kigali, the capital of Rwanda, is currently a spotless city with clean streets and tidy beautiful gardens everywhere. I hope we can copy the same policy in Egypt, so one day all its cities, towns and villages become clean without heaps of rubbish and dirt accumulating in our streets and lanes.

Thanks again to the young Egyptians for igniting the efforts to clean Egypt as they ignited the 25 January Revolution.
