THE ABDEL-MONEIM Riad bus station, a transportation hub for millions of Cairene commuters, is now empty due to the continuos sit-ins by drivers of the Public Transportation Authority.

Bus drivers have been on strike for the past 10 days, blocking streets to the People's Assembly. They insist they will not suspend their sit-ins until their demands concerning salary raises are met.

The Ministry of Finance stated that the strikers' demands would cost it LE138 million.

On Tuesday, bus drivers had decided to suspend their sit-in only to resume striking on Wednesday. In turn, Ahmed El-Borai, minister of manpower, announced freezing negotiations with strikers.

A wave of strikes is sweeping across different sectors including doctors, teachers and factory workers, all demanding better living conditions.
