Not Bin Laden
Sir-- For all the people predicting that Mursi will turn Egypt into a radicalised, Taliban-style state, or that he will strike down the peace treaty with Israel, so far he has shown no indication he intends to do either. His attempts to crack down on lawlessness in Sinai are actually being coordinated with Israel. I am less than thrilled about him being backed by the Muslim Brotherhood but the US government has had no trouble in dealing with people backed by the IRA, and thus far Mursi does not seem to be anything remotely like Osama bin Laden or Mullah Omar. Here he is, actually trying to establish civilian rule over Egypt's military -- arguably a cornerstone of democratic ideals -- and Americans heap pessimism on it. I highly doubt Mursi will always act in US or Israeli interests, but he would not deserve to be Egypt's president if he did not put the wants and needs of the Egyptians first and foremost.
Sir-- The Brotherhood is committed to the Islamisation of Egypt and the renunciation of the treaty with Israel. The secular quarters within Egypt as well as the religious minorities will either buck at Mursi soon to begin changes or will flee the country in droves.
Sir-- I'm very hopeful about this move. For so many years the US has backed the repressive regime in Egypt, all the while accepting Mubarak's mistreatment of his people. This is a great first step, and I look forward to whatever else happens in my country. It's a new beginning for Egypt.
Sir-- I'm sure the younger people who started this are not very happy now. All you educated Egyptians with your twitter and Facebook didn't realise just how many uneducated people there were in your country. Majority rules. And the majority of Egyptians are fundamentalist Muslims who blindly follow. Enjoy your Arab Spring because the winter of your discontent is beginning. Just the start of some real bad things to come for all freedom 0loving people. Sara Palmer
Back in time
Sir-- As soon as the Brotherhood has complete control of Egypt, it will end the peace with Israel. Egypt now has one head stuck in the 12th century.
