SHARM El-Sheikh will tomorrow host the International Karate Premier League to be held in Egypt for the first time in its history. The Premier League is normally associated with English football but now karate is in a tournament with the same name. The event, held under the patronage of Al-Ahram Organisation, will be a two-day tournament in all weight categories of kumite. It also includes kata competitions for both men and women. A total of 370 competitors from 45 countries will participate in the championship, including the United Arab Emirates, the US, France, Kuwait, Rwanda, Great Britain and Turkey. Clubs are also taking part in the event, including Egypt’s Ahli. Some of the Egyptian national team stars to watch are Magdi Mamdouh, kumite silver medallist in the World Championship held in France last December, Yasmine Hamdi in the 55kg weight category, Areej Said in 50kg, Mohamed Osman in 60kg, Giana Farouk and Mai Gamal in the kata.
