Entre Nous - Chic and modest

Let’s talk about better living! Our new interactive family corner aims to expand our lifestyle horizons with practical little pearls of wisdom from the editor and input from our readers

With the holy month of Ramadan well underway, many people are turning to more modest forms of dress. But this doesn’t necessarily mean sacrificing femininity or fashion in order to be respectful of cultural and religious norms.

With their eye on an almost one billion Muslim consumer market, well-known fashion labels like Mango and Tommy Hilfiger unveiled their Ramadan-themed collections this month. The clothes are only slightly wider but they cover more. Apart from that, the styles are just as elegant and fancy as those in the designers’ other collections.

This Ramadan, in addition to the classic abayah, there is a wealth of fancy but still modest options to consider, from floral dresses and denim jumpsuits to maxi skirts and dazzling scarves. And considering that Ramadan falls on some of the hottest days of the year this time around, it’s preferable to choose clothing in lightweight fabrics and subtle colours.

Here are some outfits that are effortlessly chic, fresh, elegant and modest at the same time. They’re also ideal for going to taraweeh or gatherings of family and friends.
