A crown that flatters

- The perfect haircut that looks great on pretty much all face shapes falls between your chin and shoulders, either wavy or straight.

- Short hair tends to suit all face shapes, but you should avoid short cuts if you have super curly hair.

- If you are cute and petite, you should avoid very long hair, which can dwarf a tiny body.

- Not everyone can get away with a pixie. It can make a square face look squarer and a long one look more oblong. But if you have a heart-shaped face, you almost certainly own the pixie cut. The pixie is a wash-and-go type of haircut, but needs trims every five to six weeks.

- For the round face, the secret to a great hairstyle is to deflect the roundness of your face. Avoid short curly hair as it makes your face appear rounder. Go for simple styles that add length and give height and keep the sides of your hair short or close to the face.

- If you have a square face, consider yourself lucky. Women with square faces are the most photogenic, and look gorgeous with long hair. Avoid sharp cuts or styles that can emphasise an already broad forehead and chin.

- Oval faces tend to look good in everything. If your hair is thick or curly, avoid a blunt cut. No matter the length of your cut, you’ll look best with layers near your cheekbones, lips or chin.

- Women with heart-shaped faces tend to have pointy chins. Draw attention to your eyes and cheekbones instead. Long choppy bobs, shoulder-length and almost all pixie hairstyles look great on heart-shaped faces.

- For long faces, avoid long hair as it tends to drag your face down. You can get away with it if you cut it in long layers that hit at the cheekbones and the chin. Long, wavy hair looks good on long faces and the waves add width to its sides.
