At Extra gallerylocated inZamalek, gifted artist Wessam Fahmy is showcasing her recent production of paintings at a retrospective exhibition. The artist gained her reputation for her sensitive and dreamy style that blends between reality and imagination painting brightly coloured cities. For her life is overwhelmed by the values of goodness and beauty and she is under the magic spell of the Islamic cities as she toured many of them so they became an important source of inspiration for her. She adored the oriental and traditional style of these cities such as Turkey in the East and Morocco in the West passing by Tunisia and the Andalusian countries. She painted the ancient architecture of these cities including its minarets and mosques while human figures are painted like fossils seen from a vertical dimension with their hearts hanging with the sky exactly as her heart is linked with the oriental civilisations. Graduated from Leonardo da Vinci Institute in 1965, she held 29 solo exhibition in Cairo, Paris, Belgium, Holland and the United States. She participated in Alexandria Biennale in 1980 and 1982 and the Arab Biennale in Rabat, Morocco in 1977. She took part in an art workshop in Antalia, Turkey in 1992. She has works on permanent show at the Modern Art Museum in Cairo, Museum of California University, Los Angeles, Tit’s Museum in Yoguslavia, the Turkish Ministry of Culture and the National Bank of Egypt.

The exhibition is continuing until 2 March.
