NAGUI KAMEL Abdel-Meguid pulled off the unimaginable and combined a career of caricature and sculpture. He was born in Cairo in 1943 and passed away on Monday. He graduated from Cairo University’s Fine Arts Faculty, sculpture section in 1957. Abdel-Meguid worked with Al-Ahram Weekly since its inception.
A graduate of the Luxor Atelier, Abdel-Meguid was throughout his artistic career, and especially in his sculpture, deeply influenced by ancient Egypt’s artistic legacy. And, he designed the medal of the New Nubia Museum in Aswan. His affiliation with Al-Ahram since 1980 provided him with an opportunity to display a rare talent for caricature. He will be sorely missed.
