Entre Nous: A passage to elegance

Let’s talk about better living! Our interactive family corner aims to expand our lifestyle horizons with practical little pearls of wisdom from the editor and input from our readers

Being classy is what every woman dreams of being, but very few can be considered to be women of genuine style. Class is something innate, but it can also be acquired by developing a set of values. And while you can’t become anything but yourself, you can always work towards being the best you can be mentally, physically and emotionally.

To become a classy woman does not mean always wearing a little black dress and pearls. It is a thorough process that takes a lot of time, dedication and practice. Here are some tips that can help you become a more stylish woman:

- Have a strong sense of who you are and your values. Never apologise for this.

- Dress appropriately and wear immaculate outfits. A classy woman is always comfortable in whatever she wears.

- Keep your nails perfect. You can do a simple manicure and pedicure at home.

- Maintain your hair properly and make sure you get it right. A good haircut will make you look more beautiful.

- Wear the right footwear that makes you feel comfortable. If you don’t like wearing heels, go for flats.

- Wear the right makeup according to the occasion. If you’re going to the office or college, don’t apply makeup that is suitable for a party.

- Always be aware of how you present yourself to others, both in terms of your physical presence and your interactions. Be authentic.

- Develop high standards for yourself and others. Be kind, generous and gracious at every opportunity. No one is beneath or above you.

- Be knowledgeable and aware of what is happening around you in order to gain genuine confidence in yourself.

- Follow this golden rule: treat others the way you want to be treated yourself. Even if they don’t deserve it, treat them with respect and try to practice respect and acceptance.

- Study women you find classy and copy their looks and manners. Always surround yourself with items that indicate good taste.
- Have a sense of maturity. Take responsibility for your actions. If you cause someone grief or pain, even if it’s unintentional, apologise and try to make amends.

- Be patient in your actions. Avoid pointing fingers and try to watch your words.

- Be a confident conversationalist. Smile and be polite. Don’t get buried in your cell phone when someone is talking to you.

- Realise when to talk and listen more than you talk. Talk slowly, take long pauses and put the emphasis on certain words.
- Proper posture is a must. Walk with your back straight, holding your chin high and looking focussed. Take long steps and walk slowly.

- Learn table etiquette: never start eating before a meal has started. You should never speak with your mouth full. Never place your elbows on the table.

- Don’t show off or gossip. A classy woman never talks behind other people’s backs.

- Finally, be bold and beautiful. Always be confident: you are a woman and you should be proud of it.
