Entre Nous: Staying beautiful

Let’s talk about better living! Our interactive family corner aims to expand our lifestyle horizons with practical little pearls of wisdom from the editor and input from our readers

Planning a long road trip? No doubt jumping in your car and driving for miles can be a truly liberating experience, but going on such a ride needs special arrangements. You will need to pack some beauty essentials to make sure you look shiny-eyed and gorgeous when you get out at the other end.

Take these fuss-free beauty items with you to help you look and feel your best when you arrive at your destination:

Sunscreen: Though tinted windows and air-conditioning might keep you cool on a long road trip, they won’t stop the sun burning your skin. To avoid an embarrassing case of sunburn down one side of your face and along one arm, apply sunscreen before you set out and top it up during the journey.

Face wipes: When travelling for a long time, your face can get oily. A pack of quality face wipes is an essential to have with you in your car, to quickly remove any shine from your face. They are also useful when you stop along the way and find that washing your face and hands may not be an option.

Lip balm: Your skin can get dried out on a long road journey, and this applies especially to your lips. Moisturise your lips before you start out on a long road trip and keep them moisturised with a quick application of lip balm when you take breaks.

Hand steriliser: This is an absolute must for a road trip. Long car journeys are great fun, except for the lack of hygiene at some roadside facilities. So to stay germ free, always make sure to take hand steriliser with you.

Atomiser: Instead of carrying around a large bottle of perfume, decant some of your favourite scent into a pocket-sized atomiser. You can then freshen up with a spritz of perfume when you get to your destination.

Powder foundation: This will help keep your skin from getting shiny, and it’s easy to give your face a quick dusting while you sit in the car.

Bronzer: Driving for long periods can drain the colour from your skin, so a quick application of bronzer to the hollows of your cheeks and across your forehead will give you an instant lift and make you look less tired and washed out.

Long-lasting mascara: Some long-lasting waterproof mascara will see you through the long hours of your trip. At least you’ll know that if you do get stuck somewhere, your eyes will still look great.

Sheer lipstick: Heavy-duty makeup just doesn’t feel right on a long car trip. So opt for a low-maintenance look with a hydrating sheer lipstick to give you a pop of colour. But whatever beauty essentials you take with you on your car trip, the key is to look great and feel comfortable, so keep your makeup light and fresh and enjoy the ride.
