JENNIFER SIEGAL is the winner of the fourth arcVision Woman and Architecture Prize organised by Italcementi, writes Aïcha Abdel Ghaffar from Milan. The American designer, born in 1965, was selected by a jury of outstanding architecture and socioeconomics professionals. She dedicated her prize to the the recently deceased Iraqi-British architect Zaha Hadid. The award was presented on 7 April at the Teatro dell’Arte of the Triennale di Milano on the occasion of the 21st international exhibition. According to Carlo Pesenti, Italcementi chief executive officer, Siegal’s achievement typifies the central role played by women in building a harmonious future that combines sensitivity with technological innovation. In the same connection, the name of designer Gae Aulenti was honoured and her granddaughter architect Nina Artioli was there to discuss her achievement. Honourable mentions also went to Pat Hanson (Canada), Elisa Valero Ramos (Spain) and Cazú Zegers (Chile). Egyptian architect Dalia Al-Kerdani was among the 20 architects competing, and with Egyptian figures like Mona Zakariya, Genane Azmi, Chahira Fahmi and Manal Morsi involved in the prize, arcVision Woman and Architecture deserves our attention and interest all round.
