The magic box Monday marked the first Al-Ahram TV Drama Awards, writes Nour El Abnoudy, held at the Royal Maxim Palace, Kempinski. 

For 140 years Al-Ahram has reported celebrity and arts news; now it has taken on the role of judging the most influential medium. Opening with a short address by Board Chairman Ahmed Al-Sayed Al-Naggar – who expressed hopes that the awards will become an annual tradition – the evening featured Egypt’s most prominent faces.

The award for artists went to the names of Nour Al-Sherif, Khaled Saleh and Libliba as well as Mahmoud Abdel-Aziz (Abdel-Aziz’s son Mohamed gave a moving speech in which he wished him a speedy recovery); Khaled Zaki, Hala Sedki, Laila Elwi, Ghada Abdel-Razek, Sabrine, Mona Zaki, Latifa, Tarek Lotfy, Youssef Al-Sherif and Al-Adl Production Group also won. 

The award for media figures went to Nagwa Ibrahim, Esaad Younis, Khairy Ramadan, Lamis Al-Hadidi, Sherif Amer and Wael Al-Ebrashi. 

The Critics Choice Awards were given to Yehia Al-Fakharani (best actor), Ghada Adel (best actress), Donia Samir Ghanem (best comedic actress), Eman Al-Assi (best rising star), Rogina (best supporting actress), Mohamed Farrag (best supporting actor), Yasmine Sabry (best “new face”), Wannous (best social drama), Nelly wi Sherihan (best comedy) and Al-Qaisar (best action show), among others.

The evening closed with the viewer voted awards, which included Mohamed Ramadan (best actor), Al-Ostoura (best show), Youssra (best actress) and Bayoumi Fouad (best supporting actor), among many others.
