No doubt it feels great to lose those stubborn unwanted extra kilogrammes. Yet, when you find that your weight has been replaced by flabby skin, this can be a real disappointment, especially after all that money spent, hard work and effort. Luckily, you can bring back elasticity to your skin in a natural way.

Here are some tips to tighten skin up after weight loss:

Protect your skin from the sun. Avoid the tanning salon and always apply sunscreen to your face, neck and hands when you go out, even if it’s a cloudy day. Ultraviolet light from the sun as well as tanning booths will make your skin get looser.

Stay hydrated. Drink one to two litres of water a day to help your skin regain its elasticity.

Tone up your muscles. Get back to the gym and work on building muscle mass and that will fill out some of the space left by the lost fat. Losing a lot of weight means that you’ve probably lost muscle mass too.
Eat food that contain Vitamins C, K, E and A, along with zinc and selenium. Some of the best sources of these are fish, beans, nuts and seeds. These foods will bring back the elasticity to your skin by promoting the production of collagen.

Exfoliate and practise skin brushing. Brushing or exfoliating your skin on a daily basis will increase the blood supply and promote the growth of new skin cells.

Eat plenty of protein. This will help to rebuild your muscles and bring the elasticity back to your skin as well. Lean meats like turkey and chicken and plenty of fish should all be on your regular food list.

Add raw food to your diet. Raw fruit and vegetables have more nutrients than cooked. They will increase the amount of vitamins and minerals that you are taking in and tighten your skin up again.

Pamper your skin with a massage. This is good for your skin as it increases the blood flow and improves elasticity. A daily massage with natural oils like olive oil, sweet almond oil, sesame seed oil, coconut oil or jojoba oil will moisturise your skin and keep the moisture locked in for longer, helping to keep it firm. A daily massage with cocoa butter or shea butter can also nourish and moisturise your skin.
