Genuine grief overtook Al-Ahram Weekly hours before going to press when news of our senior film critic Samir Farid’s passing reached the office. Farid (1943-2017) was one of the Arab world’s greatest cinematic minds. He was also a mentor and champion of the arts. He will be remembered and missed.
