In a tough, thrilling final, Wadi Degla beat Media Club 5-4 in the final of the last of the women’s football competitions this season, to win the Egyptian Football Association Cup.

Both teams played to a scoreless draw which took place at Shooting Club in 6th of October City.

According to the regulations, the teams took penalty kicks to decide the winner. At 4-4 the teams resorted to one-to-one shots until the winner was decided. Degla scored after Media Club missed to give the team its third consecutive title of the season.

It was the third time that both teams had played in the final of EFA competitions. Degla had previously won the national league trophy, the national league for juniors and the Federation’s Cup. Media Club was runner-up in all three events.

Interestingly, the final match was attended by a high spectator turn-out despite a heat wave which enveloped the country that day, giving the final a spectacular atmosphere.

After the match, EFA board member Sahar Al-Hawari, head of the Women’s Football Committee, gave out the medals of all three tournaments, together with the chairman of Shooting Club Amr Al-Said and the presidents of the winning clubs.

While first and second places were claimed by Wadi Degla and Media Club, third place differed in every competition. Labour Institution finished third in the Federation’s Cup, Kafr Saad claimed third place in the national league while Tram Club took third place in the juniors league.

Special prizes and medals were awarded to best player, goalkeeper, top scorer and fair play in each competition.
