BEFORE embarking on an official visit to Saudi Arabia on Sunday, President Abdel-Fattah Al-Sisi visited the War Memorial in Nasr City in remembrance of Egypt’s military martyrs on the occasion of the 35th anniversary of Sinai Liberation Day. In the commemoration, Al-Sisi placed wreaths on the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier and at the grave of former president Anwar Al-Sadat.

Al-Sisi then recited the Fatiha (the exordium of the Holy Quran) at Al-Sadat’s tomb. He was accompanied by Minister of Defence Sedki Sobhi, Chief of Staff Mahmoud Hegazi, Parliamentary Speaker Ali Abdel-Aal and Prime Minister Sherif Ismail.

Sinai Liberation Day is celebrated in Egypt on 25 April every year, marking the withdrawal of Israeli military forces from the Sinai Peninsula in 1982 following the 1979 Camp David peace accords that followed Egypt’s victory in the 1973 War against Israel.

25 April is a public holiday for both public and private sector workers.
