There was a time in the past when men were attracted to curves, but with the advent of television and glossy magazines, curvaceous women took a backseat to super-thin models and actresses. Today, women are learning to embrace their curves and become comfortable with their appearance while focussing on valuing their inner beauty as well.

As a shapely woman, finding the right jeans can be a laborious task. If you don’t find the right fit, you can end up with an unflattering choice. I always go for classic styles and colours, as they’re more becoming, and I find I can never really go wrong with a slim-leg in a dark shade.

Fashion stylists’ advice for women with curves or big thighs is to wear clothes that suit their body type. The trick lies at the shopping stage. Knowing exactly what to look for in your jeans is the key here. You can wear a pair of skinny jeans to elongate your legs, even if you have curves or big thighs.

Here are some tips for curvier women to buy attractive jeans:

• Always try before you buy: The fit can vary hugely from brand to brand.

• Don’t worry what the size label says: How the jeans fit and how you feel in them is the most important thing. Go for the styles and brands that fit and flatter and you’ll look thinner, taller and trimmer.

• Wear with heels: Heels are great for a leg-lengthening effect — make sure you try your jeans on with heels to check the length.

• Avoid changing rooms with bad lighting: Buying jeans can be traumatic enough without harsh strip lighting making you feel self-conscious.

• Darker colours are more flattering as they slim down the bottom half giving the illusion of a longer, leaner leg.

• Go for cigarette or skinny cuts (with stretch) — they’re great for most body shapes. Slimmer legs are actually much more flattering than styles that add bulk.

• Choose jeans with no fussy embellishments to keep lines clean and slimming.

• Draw attention upwards with a bold pop of colour.

• Remember: If you don’t feel good, you won’t look good!
