Happy holidays

The holiday season is upon us again, a time marked by kids laughing, families gathering, homes being decorated and late-night outings.

As the year comes to an end, a Christmas tree will likely be the centrepiece of your home for several weeks. You can add a personal touch to your Christmas tree and give your home a warm, joyful look during the holidays with these easy homemade ornaments and decorations:

Citrus accents:

Bring a fresh look to a traditional tree by sticking upholstery pins into an orange in an elaborate pattern and circling with a printed ribbon. You can attach the ribbon by cutting notches across the orange and looping the ribbon through them.

Festive cookie cutters:

Put a metal cookie cutter on decorative scrapbook paper and draw an outline around it with a pencil. Cut it out, and you’ll have the shape of the cookie cutter. Glue the metal cookie cutters to the decorative paper. Let the assembly dry, and then attach a ribbon to the back, embellish with a little bell, and hang on your tree.

Fanciful decorations:

Cut coordinating patterned scrapbook paper into triangles and punch two holes in the top corners. Thread twine through the holes to finish this cheerful decoration.

Playful ornaments:

Glue two playing cards back to back and punch a hole through the top. Hang the cards using a small strip of paper or a ribbon.

Candy ornaments:

These resemble melted chocolate when you spray-paint plain glass ball ornaments brown and create drips of paint from them. Add sugar-like glitter and peppermint chips for an extra delicious touch.

Bell decorations:

Cut and fold 12 circles of sheet music or decorative scrap book paper in half. Tape one side to another until a complete ball is formed. This ornament will add delightful texture to your tree.
