Mido’s tradition to seek attention made him dedicate hefty budgets for supercars through his football career, Mohamed Abdel-Razek reports.

“The world is not Enough”, sounds like Ahmed Hossam “Mido” was among the 007 film makers in 1999, who chose this title for the movie; because when it comes to cars, according to Mido’s taste, the world is not enough.

Right from the start of his career as a footballer, Mido, the hot headed talented young player, had all the spots on him not only in the Egyptian media, but also the whole world as one of the best rising talents. Best African player in Belgium when he played at Gent season 2000-2001 at the age of 18 made him the right pick for the Dutch giants, Ajax, where he moved in 2001 to start his journey on the highway of top level football in Europe.

Mido didn’t wait for long to practically express his admiration to super cars, when he first bought a stunningly red Ferrari 360 Modena and it was the only one in town. The 400hp 3.6L V8 supercar priced around $160K in 2001 turned heads towards the young player who was keen to keep himself in style on and off the pitch, more than anything else, to an extent that he once left his Ferrari parked in front of Amsterdam airport and went for a week to Egypt and came back to find it was moved by the officials.

Mido’s appetite for attractive nice cars increased and he decided to add another horse to his Dutch stable, and this time he went for James Bond’s BMW Z8, which Pierce Brosnan drove in “The world is not enough” in 1999. The Z8 was limited edition to 5,703 world wide which made it a special rare car to see down the road. Almost 5.0L that produced 400hp and 500pft, this car was a beast, quite suitable for Mido’s wild character at that time. According to Mido in an interview on Bein Sports, once Zlatan Ibrahimovic who played with Mido at Ajax at that time, asked Mido to take the Z8 for the weekend to hang out with his girlfriend and give Mido a Mitsubishi that he used to drive, and Mido agreed and Zlatan took the car, but the funny moment came when Mido and Haitham Farouk, former Egyptian player who played in Holland at the time, felt bored so they went out and luckily they went to the same place Zlatan and his girl friend were sitting, they sat together for a while then when it was time to leave for Mido, he asked Zlatan to borrow his car, which is originally Mido’s,  because his relatives are coming to visit him from Egypt.

Fast forward, when Mido came to the part of his career when he moved to London to play for Tottenham, he wanted an English car in his garage at his residence in Knightsbridge. “I always wanted to own an Aston Martin or a Bentley”, said Mido in an interview back in 2006. Once he had the chance to be in London, Mido bought an Aston Martin DB9, with its 5.9L V12 Engine that produced 450hp and 420pft, this car was the fastest Mido ever drove as it was from the breed of James Bond’s Astons.
