Currently on show at the Duroub gallery is "The Small Artworks 2017" collective exhibition, a miscellany of miniatures with artist Mervat Shazly as guest of honour. The exhibition was inaugurated by artist Abdel-Fattah Al-Badry and brings together around 60 artists from different generations presenting their latest creations in the fields of painting, sculpture, ceramics, glass, handcrafted silver ornaments, Egyptian arabesques, calligraphy and vacuum carving with wires. The exhibition aims to promote diversity and motivate artistic production by encouraging the public to purchase small works at affordable prices.

Mervat Shazly sought to develop her concepts of form by transcending the conflict between realism and academic rules to a non-arbitrary and organic harmony. Egyptian and especially Nubian heritage forms a central reference point for symbolic, expressionist and automatic content. Colour is a fundamental tool, distinctive in its unique blends and in its capacity to echo nature and heritage without abiding by the restrictions of tradition.

The exhibition will remain on view until 8 January
