“Memories” is a unique duo exhibition of paintings by Fatema Lotfy and Mohamed Dessouky currently on show at Grant Gallery in Downtown.

Artist Mohamed Dessouky made his name with an extremely distinctive palette of colours and a high romantic sense. His colours brilliantly echo reality, with warm shades from the impact of sunlight reflecting the hues of Egypt’s south. His lines are direct and expressive, devoid of monotony. He was keen to demonstrate the spirit of Egyptian nature and the people who inhabit it with a focus on the natural colours characterising the Egyptian environment without rigidly replicating reality. In the paintings on show, the vivid and inspiring mark of the region of Aswan, Nubia and new Nubia as well as Gourna near Luxor is obvious.

Dessouky obtained a Bachelor of Arts in philosophy from the Faculty of Arts and a diploma in art appreciation from the Higher Institute of Art Criticism in 1992. He obtained a masters in the folk art from the Academy of Arts in 2007. He has held 63 solo exhibitions in Egypt, France and Germany, where he has a permanent show in the name of Egypt in Potsdam.

The exhibition will remain on view until 3 February.
