“Always Her” is Gamal Qassem’s new experiment at the Duroub gallery in Garden City, with watercolour on wood cuttings adding unique textures and colours to the 30 paintings on show.

The artist has cited the proverb that each person has a share of what their name means, and in these 30 paintings different aspects of female beauty are celebrated – in sunlight and moonlight, in light and shade, in the blonde or brunette manifestation.

Qassem was a student of the great artist Youssef Raafat. He worked as an illustrator at Rose Al-Youssef magazine for two years and as a painter at Al-Wafd newspaper from 1987 to 1992. He gave solo exhibitions at the Greek Cultural Centre and the Cairo Opera House among many other venues, and his work is collected in Europe and America and throughout the Arab world.

The exhibition continues through 18 February
