Picasso gallery is showcasing the latest collection of paintings by artist Adel Tharwat.

In his unique, refined style, Tharwat expresses Egyptian reality and links it with folk tales that went into his own formation. Symbols, allusions and a unique palette are all trademarks. Artist and former head of the Fine Arts Sector Salah El-Melegui describes Tharwat’s work as “a kind of visual pleasure with a spiritual nature saturated by the ancient Egyptian civilisation”.

This exhibition is entitled “Green Mawwal (ballad or epic poem)”. “In my artistic project in painting,” Tharwat says of it, “I have a great interest in the Egyptian heritage in general and folklore in particular. I have chosen for my exhibition this name ‘Green Mawwal’, which is the kind of mawwal concerned with love and marriage...”
Born in Cairo in 1966, Tharwat earned a BA in Art Education from Helwan University in 1990, followed by an MA and PhD. His work stands out from much of what is shown for its rigorous structure and distinctive aesthetic.

The exhibition will remain on show until 27 February
