At the Cordoba art gallery, a collection of paintings entitled “A Memoir of Berries” by artist Abdel-Wahab Abdel-Mohsen is currently on display.

Born in 1951, Abdel-Mohsen is one of a leading abstract artist and tireless experimenter. He is a distinguished engraver and one of the icons of woodcut art as well as a masterly painter. He combines a widely appreciated abstract idiom with an original and intense sense of the rural landscape of his village in Kafr Al-Sheikh. The show includes 25 works in different sizes, all abstract and all painted on mulberry wood planks, hence the exhibition title. Abstract as it may be, however, Abdel-Mohsen’s art is lively and lifelike, pulsing with the rhythm of being – an aim impressively served by his unique style.

A 1976 graduate of Alexandria University’s Faculty of Fine Arts , Abdel-Mohsen went on to become a landmark of the Egyptian art scene. His works have been exhibited in Switzerland, France, Italy, Norway, Poland, Spain, Japan as well as Egypt. Some are on permanent display at the Egyptian Museum of Modern Art in Cairo as well as Kosh Museum in Japan.

The exhibition will remain on view until 15 March
