Salama gallery’s annual summer group exhibition “Art for All” features prominent artists such as Georges Bahgory, Ihab Lotfy, Djehan Raouf, Salah Taher and Seif and Adham Wanli.

Known as ‘The Picasso of Egypt’, Al-Ahram Weekly’s very own cartoonist Georges Bahgory was born into a Coptic Christian family in Luxor, Upper Egypt in 1932.

In 1953, he embarked on his career as a political cartoonist, a role that would see him featured in Sabah Al Khair and Rose El Youssef magazines. In 1955, he studied painting at the Faculty of Fine Arts, Helwan University in Zamalek.

In 1970, he studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Paris.

An internationally acclaimed lithographer, painter, sculptor, press designer and indeed writer, Bahgory is most famous as a caricaturist and political cartoonist.

A silver medalist for his painting A Face from Egypt, Bahgory’s work has been displayed in the Louvre, the Museum of Modern Art in Amman and the Museum of Modern Art in Cairo. His paintings are in the private collections of the Egyptian embassies in France and England.

Bahgory has won numerous awards. He is one of the United Nations top 20 artists.

The exhibition continues through the end of the season.
