Fri 22, 6.30pm (open to the public for free): Celebrating the World Music Day, the French Cultural Institute in Cairo offers a thrilling musical programme. It will feature Ali Al-Baghdady, who will play contemporary Egyptian and electronic music (7:10pm), Singer Shereen Abdo and her band perform rock and jazz mixed with folk music from Egypt (8pm), Al-Qasr band composed of six musicians from different origins will perform Arab rock music (8:50pm), Hawas is an independent Egyptian band that plays alternative music through mixing different music genres (10:05pm) while the famous Parisian band Acid Arab will perform French electronic music (11:20pm).

Every Sunday, 8.30pm: The Nile Troupe for Folk Instruments, conducted by Abdel-Rahman Al-Shafaai, performs dances and songs from Upper Egypt on mizmar, tabla and other traditional musical instruments.
Every Friday, 8.30pm: “Al-Aragouz wa Khayal Al-Zel” (The Shadow Puppet), a free public performance by clowns in Al-Muaaz Street, presented by Wamda and directed by Nabil Bahgat.

Sat 23, 8pm: Celebrating the World Music Day, the Cairo Symphony Orchestra, conducted by maestro Hisham Gabr will present a programme includes favourite works of the French repertoire: Charles Gounod’s Waltz Mephisto from Faust opera, E.Lalo’s Cello Concerto among other works.

Sun 24 & Mon 25, 8pm: The Cairo Symphony Company and Orchestra in a gala concert.

Thurs 28, 8pm: The National Arab Music Ensemble, conducted by maestro Hazem Al-Asabgy honours the memory of composer Mohamed Al-Mogui playing a number of his best songs.   

Open-Air Theatre

Thurs 21, 8pm: Celebrating the World Music Day, “Colombian Beats in Cairo” concert is presented by the Colombian Embassy, in collaboration with the Italian Cultural Institute. It marks the 50 years anniversary of the death of late Italian composer and guitarist Mario Castelnuovo Tedesco featuring Colombian soprano Betty Garces who will delight the audience by singing, accompanied by the Italian pianist Antonia Valente and together will perform international music pieces from Austria, Russia, Colombia, Cuba, Italy and Argentina.

Sat 23, 10pm: Saturday L’oriental presents this week a little bit of a rock twist with local bands Code Masr and Hawas! Code Masr is an Egyptian contemporary rock band that combines a traditional Egyptian sound with modern lyrics while Hawas is an independent Egyptian band that plays alternative music through mixing different music genres.

Sun 24, 10pm: The Riff Band will serenade the audience with some classic jazz tunes.

Mon 25, 10.30pm: Veteran DJ Mohasseb is back at it again! Mohasseb brings the beats and the party follows, so join him for #MoonlitMonday and dance the warm night away to his progressive house tunes.

Thurs 28, 10pm: Funk Off will cover your favorite tunes to dance to covering a range of genres including funk, disco, blues, rock and pop. The Cadillacs will transport you to the good old Rockabilly days with renditions of 50’s & 80’s rockabilly and rock n’ roll music.
