Gorgeous in glasses

Choosing eyeglasses

No doubt, popping on a pair of glasses can change one’s look, and women who wear glasses know how difficult it can be to choose the right dress and suitable makeup when they have boring glasses on. Yet, sometimes a pair of glasses can be just what is needed to add that glamorous hint to your look.

Whether you wear them every day or just reach for them on occasions, the frames you choose can ultimately dictate the way the world sees you, and, more importantly, how you see yourself.

Like everything in life, there is a right and a wrong way of wearing glasses. Factors like frame shape, colour and style can affect you. So, if you’re going to wear spectacles every day, you’ll be in need of the right amount of confidence and an amazing attitude to look your best.

Here are some tips to help you find your perfect frame and look trendy even when wearing glasses:

The shape of the frame

The shape of the frame:

This should contrast with the shape of your face. Unlike sunglasses, which tend to be larger for greater coverage, try to make your frames in proportion with the rest of your face.

Round faces

Round faces:

Go for a retro cat’s eye look with thicker rims and angular or rectangular frames. These help to elongate the face, and a contrasting bridge makes the eyes look farther apart.

Narrow faces

Narrow faces:

Opt for taller, squared-off, or more circular frames. They’ll take up more room on your face and help balance out your features. Also look for glasses with thicker arms or decorative details at the temples to draw attention to the sides of your face and make it appear broader.

Square-shaped faces

Square-shaped faces:

Aim for narrower oval and rectangular styles with rounded edges. They’re great for softening a strong, square jaw and lengthening the face.

Heart-shaped faces

Heart-shaped faces:

Look for aviator styles and rimless styles or frames that are a bit wider than your forehead, as they usually suit you better.

Oval face shapes

Oval face shapes:

Pick top heavy frames and butterfly shapes. Go for styles that are thicker or darker on the top than the bottom, or try a butterfly style, which wings up and out slightly at the top.

Try to keep a few colourful framed glasses to suit different moods and occasions. Choose the right type of frame that makes you feel most comfortable. One of the best ways to look gorgeous in glasses is also to trim your eyebrows. The biggest misconception a woman wearing glasses can make is that no one is going to notice the eyebrows. In fact, glasses will make your eyebrows even more obvious. So, keep your eyebrows clean and neatly-shaped.

Wrinkles, dark circles and blemishes may become more prominent when you wear glasses. To look good, lightly dot the under-eye area with a good concealer which matches your skin tone and blend well. Then lightly dust some compact powder to set the concealer in place. Avoid using lengthening mascara as it has a tendency to smudge and may end up creating dark spots on your glasses. Instead opt for volumising mascara to look good.

Wear makeup. Contrary to what many people believe, wearing glasses with makeup isn’t a waste of time. Your makeup is visible under your glasses, and in order to look pretty you will need to highlight your brows, curl your lashes and use eye shadow.

For nighttime outings, instead of using eye shadow, use eyeliner in a warm colour and smudge it for a glamourous effect.
