The latest collection of paintings by former culture minister Farouk Hosny is currently showing at Picasso gallery in Zamalek.

The exhibition showcases 40 paintings of various sizes, in which Hosny depicts the beauty of cosmic galaxies and endless space visualising them as an astronaut, but in his own unique style.

Visions of outer space make up yet another application of Hosny’s valuable contribution to the development of abstract formulae that combine cutting-edge ideas with personal style.

There is a consensus that his oeuvre shows a captivating colour eloquence which, together with presence of sweeping space energetic movement, captivates viewers.

“Farouk Hosny is an astronaut in abstract vision. He floats through galaxies and in infinite space he sees ideas, sensations, absolute forms, pure colours,” Carmelo Strano, the Italian art critic, comments in L’Arca International magazine.

Dan Cameron, the Director of Visual Arts at the Contemporary Arts Centre in New Orleans, USA, agrees: “For all its lack of identifiable subject matter, Farouk Hosny’s paintings are open to being understood by the viewer as an ongoing abstract interpretation of visual phenomena in the real world”.

The exhibition is on view until 28 February.
