Get a taste of Lina Osama’s “Olive Jam” at Art Corner gallery

The Art Corner gallery in Zamalek presents Lina Osama’s exhibition of paintings “Olive Jam”.

Olive jam is a delicious delicacy of the Siwa Oasis, produced by adding large amounts of sugar to olives to create a kind of sweet-and-sour spread.

Osama finds deep inspiration in Siwa, having visited five times since 2009. Her paintings explore the simple life of the people of the oasis revealing layers of history through ancient monuments and multi-coloured visual culture with Egyptian, Greco-Roman, Amazigh, African and Islamic influences.

Born in 1986, Osama is a multidisciplinary artist. She graduated with a Bachelor's degree in painting from the Faculty of Fine Arts, Helwan University, in 2009, attending scholarships at the Salzburg and Traunkirchen fine arts academies in Austria in 2006, 2008, 2009.

She won the painting prize of the Cairo Youth Salon in 2007 and the first prize in painting from the Young Artists Salon in 2015, and since 1999 has participated in some 70 exhibitions in Egypt, Austria, France, Italy, Romania and Morocco.

Osama is also the founder and curator of the Living Units exhibitions at Goethe Institute, Nile Art and Gezira Art Centre in Cairo, the Egyptian Cultural Office in Vienna and Go Arts in Bucharest (2016-2018). Her work is publically and privately collected in Egypt, the USA, France, Morocco and Austria.

The exhibition runs through 12 March
