Alexandrian sculptor Hany El-Sayed’s first solo exhibition, “Catching Souls”, is currently on display at the Mashrabia gallery’s Main Hall on Champollion Street, Downtown.

Sculptures by El-Sayed are modelled in bronze and marble, and his compositions reveal a world of figures suggesting stories: events, memories and feelings.

Gathering together pieces of his substantial body of work produced over the years, this show pays tribute to a pillar of the Egyptian art movement who has participated in numerous, often international group exhibitions. It covers every stage of his career from abstraction to figuration, and demonstrates his remarkable versatility.

Born in Alexandria in 1972, El-Sayed received his Bachelor of Art Education in 1995. His work has been acquired by Bibliotheca Alexandrina and the Museum of Modern Art in Cairo as well as private collectors from Spain, Italy, Turkey and Egypt.

The exhibition will remain on view until 28 March.
