Artist Mustafa Al-Razzaz is currently showing a collection of his works at the Gezira Arts Centre’s Ahmed Sabri Hall.

Al-Razzaz is a versatile artist: painter, photographer, sculptor and engraver. He has an integrated artistic vision, the outcome of his cultural heritage and folklore and his deep journeys into the human soul. This is reflected in transparent colours whose spirituality and spontaneity are paramount. He grew famous for his unique structures which combine different elements as if coming from the same origin.

In Al-Razzaz’s paintings, the human body is a bird, the bird a plant; the human face shares the head of a bird, and hair is like an endless sea wave. He paints as if he is dreaming, his works subject only to the wild imagination of the artist with its roots in authentic folk art and heritage.

Born in Dakahlia in March 1942, Al-Razzaz received a scholarship from the University of Oslo, Norway in 1974 and earned his doctorate from New York University in 1979. He has been a professor of design at the Faculty of Art Education, Helwan University, where he served as Vice Dean for Studies and Research in 1986-1988. He founded the Faculty of Specific Education in Dokki, where he served as dean until 1996, in 1988. He was also Chairman of the Board of Directors of the General Organisation for Culture Palaces in 1997-1999.

The exhibition is on until 21 March.
