Planning your annual summer escape? For most of us, going off on an extended summer break is the best way to vacation with the family without breaking the bank. A beach holiday should be about fun in the sun, sand and surf. Check the following list before going to ensure the best beach getaway ever.

- Beach towels: Ideally, one for each person.

- Beach blanket or mat: Great for sunbath and resting children.

- Beach portable chairs.

- Umbrella: Good for some relief from the sun.

- Beach toys if you have young children.

- I-pod or books for adults.

- Sunscreen.

- Beach bags and trash bags.

- Snacks, water and other beverages.

- A cool box to store drinks in.

- Beach cart with big wheels, for carrying all you need.

- Finally, choose a beach with at least one properly trained lifeguard on duty.

Essential beach accessories

A day at the beach isn’t only about brushing up on your tan, enjoying the fresh air and swimming in the sea. You not only want to feel good, but look good too. The following are the must-have essential beach accessories for this year.

Straw tote bag: It’s great for carrying stuff like waterproof sun tan lotion, after-sun cream, lip balm, printed beach towel, change of clothes, fashion magazine and so on.

Hat: A large floppy or wide brimmed hat is not only fashionable but also practical because it will protect your neck, face and scalp from the sun. White is in this year.

Oversized sunglasses:They give you a stylish look while protecting your eyes from the burning sun as you stroll on the golden sands.

High-waisted swimwear:Retro and high-waisted are the main features trending in swimwear this summer. With the 1940s style of two-piece swim suits, the longer shorts offer more coverage than bikinis and look great whether you are petite or have a fuller figure.

A grecian sandal: Always keep a nude pair in your beach bag as they can be worn during the day, then paired with a cute sundress for a dinner on the beach.

In addition to the chic accessories, do make sure that you purchase the correct factor sun block and don’t spend too much time in the sun. Make sure that you take adequate clothes to cover yourself after sunbathing if you intend to spend more time on the beach.

Child-proof your trip

Before hitting the road with your little ones, consider the following travelling tips:

Build nap and snack breaks into your daily plan. Staying in one place is a good idea as kids get tired easily, so you don’t want to be racing around from place to place with them.

Give your children a cheap digital camera when you travel. They will love taking their own pictures and you can see the trip through their eyes.

Don’t try and plan too much. Be flexible because chances are nothing will go to plan when you’re travelling with kids!

Have plenty of activities on hand. If you’re on a road trip make sure you have lots of games, books and toys to entertain the little ones.

Involve your kids andask them where they might like to go and talk about the things they might like to do to get them excited about travel.
