Entre Nous: Feet treat

Let’s talk about better living! Our new interactive family corner aims to expand our lifestyle horizons with practical little pearls of wisdom from the editor and input from our readers.

Feet climb up the top of our beauty maintenance priority list in the summertime.

Ugly, dry, scaly-looking feet, rough spots and nasty toenails become every woman’s nightmare. To keep your feet in tip-top showing off-shape, try using the following homemade milk and honey moisturising foot mask and you will be surprisingly pleased at how beautiful your feet look and feel afterwards.

What you need for your foot mask?

- 1 cup of organic honey.

- 1 cup of buttermilk or milk powder.

- One tablespoon of olive oil.

How to prepare the mask:

Place all the ingredients inside a medium jar with an open mouth and a lid. Mix the ingredients together using a spoon or wire whisk until you have a very thick, slightly gritty milky-coloured mask with a honey-milk scent. You may add in 10 drops of your favourite essential oil for a mask with a particular scent infusion.

Steps to be followed:

- Apply the mask in the bathtub to avoid a mess.

- Exfoliate and cleanse the feet well with an exfoliating foot scrub before applying the foot mask.

- Pat your feet dry with a cotton cloth then apply handfuls of the mask to your feet until they are coated generously.

- Leave the foot mask on for about an hour while the feet are placed comfortably over the bathtub. You can read a magazine or listen to music until the time is up.

- Once the time is up, keep your feet in the bathtub, plug it and fill it up with warm water until your feet are covered.

- Allow the warm water to dissolve the mask on your feet for 10 minutes.

- Pat your feet dry and massage a moisturising foot cream into them to pamper them a bit more.

Once all this is done, your feet will look and feel so much better and a lot healthier.

- You can use the mask as often as you need to in order to keep your feet beautiful and youthful-looking all the time.

Storing the foot mask in a cool dark dry spot until you are ready to use it should keep it fresh for up to two to three weeks because honey acts as a natural preservative.

Why choose this mask?

Honey contains natural antibacterial and anti-fungal properties, which is excellent for killing foot fungus and bacteria that cause bad foot odour. Honey also contains vitamins, minerals and antioxidants that nourish the skin and nails of the feet and toes. Milk powder exfoliates the dead dry skin cells that cause rough patches and cracks on the feet. Milk powder also conditions and nourishes the skin of the feet making them softer and smoother in appearance and in texture. As for olive oil, it contains anti-fungal and antibacterial properties that keep the feet looking and feeling clean as well as smelling fresh. The mask also contains vitamin E, natural moisturisers and omega fatty acids, which are needed to heal calluses, cracked heals and dry brittle yellowing toenails naturally. Together the ingredients cleanse, detoxify, deodorise and pamper the feet from toes to heels beautifully.
