Mortada Mansour

Although he was a staunch supporter of former army chief Abdel-Fattah Al-Sisi, lawyer Mortada Mansour announced Sunday that he would compete in the coming presidential elections against the Field Marshal and leftist political figure Hamdeen Sabahi.

Mansour, who is known to be outspoken, was elected head of the Zamalek sports club for the third time on 28 March.

In April 2011, Mansour was accused of being involved in orchestrating the Battle of the Camel on 2 February, which left 11 demonstrators dead and hundreds injured. He was detained in Tora Prison for 17 days until the court found him innocent of the charges.
