EL-SAWY Cultural Wheel in Cairo celebrates 150 young Egyptian writers. Whoever said that young Egyptians do not read or write enough should reconsider, reports Angy Essam.

On 9 September El-Sawy Cultural Wheel cultural centre in Cairo hosted a ceremony to honour 150 young Egyptian writers, among them Sherif Abdelhady, Mohamed Esmat and Noran Elmasry.

The writers were chosen by young readers who filled in an on-line questionnaire on the ‘aseer al-kotob Facebook site, which is sponsored by companies including Magmoet Al-Nil Al-Aarabiyya, Noon, Dar Al-Rasm bi-al-Kalemat, Leila, Al-Medan, Zein Al-Maaany, the Lian publishing house and the Hemat Lasheen Cultural Centre.

Many well-known writers and cultural figures attended the ceremony, including Ahmed Megahed and Nabil Farouk, who made a speech honouring the young writers.

The writer is a freelance journalist.
