Perfection packing

Let’s talk about better living! Our new interactive family corner aims to expand our lifestyle horizons with practical little pearls of wisdom from the editor and input from our readers

Eid is right round the corner dears and the relatively hot weather of late will encourage many of us to take off for a mini-vacation with family and friends. Packing for just a brief getaway, though, can sometimes seem nothing short of overwhelming.

Here are some steps to the perfect pack:

Do all the laundry:
This allows you to pack from your entire wardrobe, including things you’ve worn over the past week.

Put all your key items together:
Place stuff like phone charger, glasses and your favourite magazines in one central location.

Plan your outfits through all the days of the trip:
If you prefer to travel lightly, try to pack things you can wear more than once. Put your shorts, shirt, pajamas, bathing suit and cover-up on the bed — flip-flops on floor.  It’s always a good idea to have an extra set of comfy clothes and enough underwear. You can also put outfits appropriate for dinner plans on the bed, along with accessories.

Consider changing weather:
Put a hooded sweatshirt on the bed.

Pack the bag:
Now comes the toughest part — packing all your stuff in a good order in the bag. Stuff socks into shoes to help them keep their shape, then stick your shoes at the bottom of the bag. Your items are already piled on bed, so just stack them on top of the shoes, filling in any spaces with the little stuff: underwear, sunglasses, etc. Just be sure to leave a few inches at the top of the bag for toiletries.

Toiletries:
Select the essential items and put them in a relatively small makeup case. Be sure to have toothpaste, deodorant, face wash, razor, sunscreen and everything else you can’t live without. Be sure to ask yourself if this trip requires any special items.

Zip up and head out.
One bag and you’re covered. Ask your family members to do the same. Grab you bags, get where you’re going and enjoy.
