A MEMBER of the activist 6 April youth movement, Mohannad Samir, was severely injured after he was gunned down on New Year’s Eve in Tahrir Square. Samir, who suffers injuries in the head and neck, was a popular figure in Tahrir and served 10 months in jail following his arrest along with 269 protesters in the aftermath of the cabinet clashes in December 2011.
New Year celebrations in the iconic square came to a halt after the shooting. Some wanted the celebrations to continue while others insisted the festivities must be cancelled out of respect.
