FOLLOWING a huge project in Giza, evidence has come to light that will revolutionise current views of the Pyramid Age. In this issue, Jill Kamil interviews Mark Lehner, director of the Giza Plateau Mapping Project, whose declared aim is to find out as much as possible about the ancient settlement for science and posterity. For his part Zahi Hawass, secretary-general of the Supreme Council of Antiquities (SCA), says Lehner's second aim (to simultaneously run a training programme for SCA inspectors) is perfectly in line with his own plans; while Gerry Scott, director of the American Research Center in Egypt, is all too happy to use a USAID grant to establish a "hands-on" training course to be called the Giza Field School.
